1. Eligibility. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE ODDS OF WINNING. CONTEST OPEN ONLY TO RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (COLLECTIVELY, THE “U.S.”) WHO ARE AGE 18 OR OLDER. IF YOU ARE NOT A RESIDENT OF THE U.S., YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO WIN, AND YUMUNIVERSE, LLC RESERVES THE RIGHT NOT TO AWARD PRIZES TO ENTRANTS WHO RESIDE IN OTHER JURISDICTIONS. To be eligible to win, entries must be completed and received in the format designated below. YumUniverse, LLC, all participating sponsors, affiliates, professional advisors, advertising and promotional partners, and immediate families of each are not eligible to win. All applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Offer void where prohibited or restricted by law. Limit one entry per person. No exceptions.
2. Disclaimer. The Participating Entities will not be responsible for: (a) any late, lost, misrouted, garbled or distorted or damaged transmissions or entries; (b) telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet, or other computer- or communications-related malfunctions or failures; (c) any Contest disruptions, injuries, losses or damages caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor; or (d) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest.
3. Entry/Voting Period. The entry period will be from 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, July 16, 2013 until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, July 22, 2013 (the “Entry Deadline”). All entries must be received by the Entry Deadline to be eligible to win. The voting period will be from 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, August 6, 2013 until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, August 12, 2013 (the “Voting Deadline”). All votes must be received by the Voting Deadline to win.
4. Prizes.
(a) Grand Prize: One (1) Grand Prize winner will have their recipe published in the upcoming YumUniverse book published by BenBella Books (a “Participating Entity”).
(b) Finalist Prizes: Five (5) Finalists will each receive a mention in the YumUniverse newsletter, on the YumUniverse.com website and 50% off of YumUniverse Lifetime Membership. If Finalist is already a YU Lifetime Member, they can gift their discount to one lucky recipient.
5. How to Enter.
To enter the #YUinPRINT Recipe Contest:
(a) Go to and complete the Official Entry Form by July 23, 2013. A registration kit with further instruction will be sent to email address provided by registrant. Registrant will submit one original plant-based, gluten-free recipe, and one photograph of that recipe, with the subject line “#YUINPRINT Contest Entry” to hello@yumuniverse.com by the Entry Deadline. No multiple entries accepted.
(b) Registrant will follow these guidelines for submission:
Acceptable photo file formats: GIF orJPG (do not embed into the email). Send as an attachment with the widest side of your image being 600pixels, and the resolution set to 72dpi. No exceptions. If you win, or if we need a larger image, we will contact you.
Recipe submission: Please paste your recipe copy into the body of your email (no attachment) and include:
• Your name
• Your website link
• Name of recipe
• Ingredients and measurements
• Serving size
• Preparation time(s)
• Steps for preparation
• A 3-5 sentence explanation about your recipe and why you are submitting it for consideration.
By entering the Contest, you consent to being placed on a mailing list for promotional and other purposes.
6. Contest Rules.
Create your own original plant-based, gluten-free recipe (an “Original Recipe”). Submit your Original Recipe according to the instructions described above. Each Original Recipe must: (a) be your own original creation, and not based on any other published recipe, (b) include a list of all required ingredients in specific, common U.S. household measurement units, step-by-step preparation instructions, and cooking times, (c) involve only ingredients commonly available at grocery stores or available online, and (d) not have won a grand prize in any other YumUniverse contest.
After the Deadline, Heather Crosby (the ‘Judge’) shall select five (5) Original Recipes, in her sole discretion, determined to be the most apt, original and appropriate Original Recipe (each, a ‘Finalist Recipe’). YumUniverse will notify the entrants who submitted the Finalist Recipes (each, a “Potential Winner”) that they have been selected to receive a Finalist Prize. (saraogihospital.com) Each Potential Winner will be notified by e-mail. To be eligible to win the Grand Prize, each Potential Winner must respond within five (5) business days of the first attempted notification following the instructions contained in the notification. Upon YumUniverse’s timely verification of the Potential Winners’ eligibility and receipt of completed affidavits, releases and publicity releases (as explained below), each Potential Winner shall be deemed a “Finalist.” In the event a Potential Winner fails to timely respond to Sponsor’s attempted notifications, fails to timely submit completed affidavits, releases and publicity releases, or otherwise is determined by YumUniverse to be ineligible to win a prize, the Potential Winner will be disqualified from the Contest and YumUniverse will select an alternate eligible entrant and his or her Original Recipe to be a Finalist Recipe. Finalists will be publicly announced on or about August 6, 2013.
After Finalists have been selected, the Finalist Recipes, Finalists’ names, and city and state of each Finalist’s residence (collectively, the “Finalist Information”) will be made publicly available by one or more of the Participating Entities, such as through Internet websites, and other methods of distribution, and used for promotional or marketing purposes, including without limitation a public vote on YumUniverse.com to determine the public’s favorite Finalist Recipe. Finalist Recipes may be edited for content, clarity, length and/or consistency at YumUniverse’s sole discretion.
The Judge will then evaluate each of the Finalist Recipes based on number of comments their Finalist post receives on YumUniverse.com. Every comment per post equals one vote for that Finalist Recipe. In the event of a tie, the Judge may select an additional judge to cast a tie-breaking vote. The Finalist who submitted the Finalist Recipe that receives the highest number of votes shall be deemed the Grand Prize winner. Each Finalist shall be awarded a Finalist Prize. In addition to receiving a Finalist Prize, the Grand Prize winner shall also be awarded the Grand Prize. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on or about August 13, 2013.
7. Ownership of Entries.
All entries and materials submitted to YumUniverse in connection with the Contest (collectively, “Entry Materials”), along with all copyright, trademark and other proprietary rights associated therewith, remain the property of Entrant upon submission, but Entry Materials will not be returned to any entrant. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you acknowledge that YumUniverse LLC will own all rights to use, modify, reproduce, publish, perform, display, distribute, make derivative works of and otherwise commercially and non-commercially exploit the Entry Materials in perpetuity and throughout the universe, in any manner or medium now existing or hereafter developed, without separate compensation to you or any other person or entity. YumUniverse’s use of the entry materials may include but shall not be limited to publication and archived in YumUniverse products. You agree to take, at YumUniverse LLC’s expense, any further action (including, without limitation, execution of affidavits and other documents) reasonably requested by YumUniverse to effect, perfect or confirm YumUniverse LLC’s ownership rights as set forth above in this paragraph 7.
8. Original Work of Authorship.
You hereby warrant and represent that (a) you own all rights to all Entry Materials submitted by you; and (b) all such Entry Materials are original works of authorship on your part and have not been copied, in whole or in part, from any other work and do not violate, misappropriate or infringe any copyright, trademark or other proprietary right of any other person or entity.
9. General Release.
By entering the Contest, you release YumUniverse LLC and the Participating Entities from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, related to any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Contest or delivery, misdelivery, acceptance, possession, use of or inability to use any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory.
10. Use of Winner’s Name, Likeness, etc.
Except where prohibited by law, entry into the Contest constitutes permission to use winners’ name, likeness and/or prize information, without limitation, for promotional purposes without further permission or compensation. As a condition of being awarded any prize, except where prohibited by law, winners may be required to execute and deliver to YumUniverse LLC a consent to the use of their name, likeness and/or prize information, without limitation, for promotional purposes without further permission or compensation.
11. Affidavit & Release.
As a condition of being awarded any prize, winners may be required to execute and deliver to YumUniverse LLC a signed affidavit of eligibility and acceptance of these Official Rules and release of liability.

13. Miscellaneous.
The Contest and these Official Rules will be governed, construed and interpreted under the laws of the state of West Virginia. Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of YumUniverse LLC, which are final and binding in all respects. YumUniverse LLC reserves the right to change these Official Rules at any time, in its sole discretion, and to suspend or cancel the Contest or any entrant’s participation in the Contest should viruses, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond YumUniverse LLC’s control affect the administration, security or proper play of the Contest or YumUniverse LLC otherwise becomes (as determined in its sole discretion) incapable of running the Contest as planned. Entrants who violate these Official Rules, tamper with the operation of the Contest or engage in any conduct that is detrimental or unfair to YumUniverse LLC, the Contest or any other entrant (in each case as determined in YumUniverse LLC’s sole discretion) are subject to disqualification from entry into the Contest. YumUniverse LLC reserves the right to lock out persons whose eligibility is in question or who have been disqualified or are otherwise ineligible to enter the Contest.
By officially registering for this contest, you are agreeing that you have read and accept these Contest rules.
