Tip 2: Slow Down

I know first-hand how hard these next 4 words can be to hear.

You. Must. Slow. Down.

I am going to let you in on the secret to achieving almost every health goal that you desire. Here goes…you will have to make time to prepare your food. You will have to re-prioritize. Fast, quick and easy only works some of the time.

Stay with me.

Changing your diet is a process that is going to take time, in the long-term journey sense, and in the day-to-day meal prep sense. In order for a healthy diet to work for the rest of your life you will have to change the way you approach and think about your time. You have to value your time in a whole new way. And give your time to the aspects of your life that nourish, not deplete.

One thing that you can try immediately is to cut down on the TV watching. Just try at least one less TV night a week. You will be shocked at what you can accomplish, how well you will sleep and how good you will feel the day following the no TV day. Feeling up for a challenge? Try a TV free week.

Think about it. How are you supposed to maintain strength, a positive attitude, and successfully incorporate changes that are not part of the mainstream, if you are constantly bombarded with “you aren’t smart, rich or skinny enough?”

You may think “No TV? How else am I supposed to wind down from a long day?” Giving up some TV time may seem impossible or not an option at all. Look closely at that kind of response. Are you finding time to connect or disconnect with your time? Are you addicted to disconnection?

Some aspects of your journey, like the changes in your body, energy level and mood will be immediate, but the rest, could take months, even years. Look at this new approach as an investment with incredible value and rewards to come. Picture “ideal future you” and keep walking in that direction.

While I will absolutely be posting many easy-to-make recipes on YumUniverse, I strongly encourage you consider changing your relationship with food and the time it takes to prepare it well.

Easyeasyeasy, quickquickquick isn’t working for this country, just look around. The more detached we become from our meals and ourselves, the more sick we become and the more dependent on meds we become to function day-to-day.

Instead of thinking about meals as something we need to prepare quickly and consume on-the-go, think about them as a time to slow down and truly connect with what you put in your body. Enjoy the slowness. The lack of noise. The time it takes to chop, slice and prepare. Use this as your time to unwind. It will give back to you in amazing ways.

Think these ideas over while you soak the day away in an epsom salt bath and read some of our recommended books found in our shop, or listed in “The Big Crash Course” post. They will expand on these ideas in Tip #2.
You can do this!
