The holidays are here and that means it’s time to celebrate all the flavor of this season without losing sight of our health goals. So toast to your wellness adventure with this non-alcoholic, naturally sweetened holiday “mocktail”—it’s sweet with a hint of fire (like the boys who inspired the name), and easy to prepare with a few ingredients you probably have on-hand already.
It’s a great reason to try making your own probiotic-rich kombucha, and the kiddos can join us on the fun with this non-alcoholic version (skip the cayenne?). Stay gold everyone. Stay gold. Cheers!
Want to make it boozy?
Use 1 part smoky Mezcal or bourbon to 4 parts cider. Use the rest of the ingredients listed below and follow the same steps.
Try to buy everything organic. Here’s why.
2 parts organic apple cider
3 parts plain kombucha (make your own)
1 teaspoon maple syrup
2 pinches cayenne pepper
2 pinches cinnamon (use Ceylon cinnamon if you can find it)
Large strip of orange zest for garnish
Let’s get started.
1. Peel zest and twist a few times to release the oils. Rub zest around the rim of a tumbler. Place zest inside tumbler with a few ice cubes.
2. Pour cider, kombucha (or Mezcal or bourbon), maple syrup, cinnamon and cayenne into a shaker and shake vigorously.
3. Pour over ice. Enjoy.
1. Try adding 1/2 tsp fresh, minced ginger for extra spice and heat.
