Raw Hemp Milk

Hemp seeds are one of my favorite superfoods. Incorporating these complete protein seeds into my diet has made an incredible difference, especially with my workouts—thank you, Brendan Brazier. This recipe is inspired by his book Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life. You can use hemp milk as a protein-packed base for smoothies, add organic raw cacao powder for chocolate hemp milk, fresh fruit for a berry drink, or pour it over breakfasts like Apple Quinoa Cereal. This recipe is a cinch to make and it keeps in your refrigerator for 5-7 days.

Makes: approx. 3 cups  |  Preparation Time: 15mins

Tools:
Blender

Ingredients:
1 cup organic hemp seeds
3 cups coconut water, store-bought or fresh young coconut water
1 tbsp maple syrup, organic brown rice syrup, raw yacon syrup or raw honey to taste—of course you can leave the sweetener out if you’d like unsweetened Raw Hemp Milk.
Pinch Celtic or pink Himalayan sea salt

Let’s get started.
Place all your ingredients in the blender and mix for about 10-20 seconds. No need to strain this creamy milk. Use it right away or store in an airtight glass container in your refrigerator. If it separates in your fridge, just shake before using.

Doesn’t not straining it leave it grity/chunky? Especially when the hemp isn’t soaked first to make it softer?

Hi Melly, grittiness may happen if you have a blender with a weak motor, but since the seeds are already soft and full of beneficial oils, they tend to blend up very creamy.
